The CARE Center is a child advocacy center located in a quiet neighborhood in Oklahoma City. It is a place where children who have been sexually and physically abused are safe to receive the help and support that they need to heal. The CARE Center is a place set apart from the stereotypical systems of yesterday. For it wasn’t that long ago, that when children were abused and brave enough to tell someone about the abuse, they were sent from agency to agency, reliving their terror and abuse over and over again, as they told their painful, personal stories to the many professionals involved in their case. But today, things have changed. Today, things are better. For today, there is a place, a haven, for children and their families to be restored to the positive life of destiny they were meant for. Working to change the pressures forced on already hurting children, and to fight the pain and humiliation, The CARE Center offers a place of refuge to ensure that every abused child is treated with compassion, respect and love, as they work through, and leave behind the pain of things that never should have happened. As a child enters the Center, they are welcomed into a homelike atmosphere, and interviewed one time in the least traumatic way possible. There are snacks to enjoy, toys to play with, crafts to make, and a playground—all to deflect the harsh sting of the abuse they must recall. |
